Nike launched the On Air competition to give people the opportunity to create their own Air Max designs inspired by the cities they are proud to call home. Designed by Tokyo-based competition winner Yuta Takuman, the Air Max 1 'On Air: Tokyo Maze' was released in April 2019. A monochrome leather upper from the Takuman labyrinth and rainbow-colored laces pay homage to the city's complex subway system. The visible red Max Air unit is a nod to the iconic Tokyo Tower.
